Where It All Began
Sameer was never in technology or AI because of his interest in this field. His true calling was that of a physician-scientist. Having completed his training in cardiology, he saw firsthand his patients struggle with complicated conditions and their struggle to get care that matched the nuance of their diagnoses. That frustration, paired with a research background in modeling variability in patient response to treatment, became the foundation for XpertDox.
This article also reflects the journey of a founder whose path into healthtech began not in revenue cycle management and the operational expertise behind it but in the exam room with fellow clinicians and patients. AI medical coding was not the original plan. However, as Sameer and our COO and Co-founder, Bhupesh Panwar, delved further into the operational side of the process, they saw an opportunity in billing and coding compliance that they would otherwise apply to diagnoses. This insight led to XpertCoding, an autonomous medical coding solution now used by healthcare organizations, FQHCs, and multi-specialty provider groups across the country.
Where We Are Headed Today
XpertDox, today, works on a multi-engine AI model combining neural networks, symbolic reasoning, and ensemble machine learning that automates more than 95% of coding encounters while maintaining accuracy above 99%.
With regulatory updates getting stricter and compliance checks getting more rigid, it has become important to build a platform that doesn't just use AI to automate but flags clinical notes in real-time, improving them and ensuring every compliance check is ticked. CMS rules keep getting updated and more compliance-driven, with quality metrics being tied to reimbursement. XpertCoding handles Category II CPT codes natively. The platform is built keeping the rules in mind.
This is also the time when most healthcare organizations are under pressure to use technology to enhance revenue cycle management without compromising on compliance or patient care. Risk adjustment and HCC coding are where healthcare organizations can optimize revenue while still delivering value-based care to the patients. Chronic conditions that were once treated as background context now need to be captured and coded every year to maintain accurate RAF scores. XpertCoding surfaces the conditions that manual coders miss in administrative overload or burden, particularly on high-complexity patients. This results in providers being able to see appropriate risk-adjusted payments.
